Why Pitru Paksha is inauspicious for realty deals?

Pitru Paksha is considered to be a very inauspicious period in Hindu religion. What is Pitru? In Sanskrit, Pitru means, one’s ancestors. Therefore, being one’s deceased ancestors, Hindus equate them with the divine almighty. Hence, many Indian Rituals are assigned to the almighty and to one’s ancestors. Once such ritual to the ancestors is Sharad. A ritual which is performed to appease the ancestors after they depart the living world.

What is Sharad?

Sharad, in Sanskrit which literally means anything or any act that is performed with all sincerity and faith. In the Hindu religion, it is the ritual that one performs to pay homage to one's deceased ancestors' . Which again in Sanskrit would be termed as Pitru. Especially to one's dead parents. Conceptually, it is a way for people to express heartfelt gratitude and thanks towards their parents and ancestors, for having helped them to be what they are and praying for their peace. Some can call it as a Day of remembrance. Therefore, it is performed to the ancestral lineage both paternal and maternal.

When is it performed?

In Hindu, religion, this is performed differently. For instance, in the Southern Parts of India, a Sharad is performed on the Thiti or nakshtra of the deceased soul in the Hindu Calendar Month.

However, in the Northern and Western parts of the Country, a Sharad is usually performed during the Pitru Paksha. Generally, Pitru Paksha is a 16-day period that starts on the last day that is the full moon day of the Hindi calendar month of Bhadrapada, usually in the western parts of the country.

Accordingly, in the Northern parts of the Country It is followed for 15 days of the Hindi calendar month of Ashwin, during which the moon wanes and ends on Amavasya (moonless night). It is during this time that people perform Sharad. for their ancestors.

Therefore, the Sharad 2018 start date would fall from 24th September and end around 8th October 2018. This is the Pitru Paksha for the present year. In fact, in astrological terms, when a learnt and expert astrologer examines that a native has not pleased their ancestors and therefore, suffering their wraths in their hands, the immediate remedies is to perform a Sharad during the Pitru Paksha of that year. Since this is the month to remember one’s ancestors, it is usually considered not very auspicious to undertake any important work. This includes responsibility of getting one’s children married or even dealing in real east is avoided during this month.

In fact, it is believed that a person who perform the Sharad Rituals with utmost Sincerity, including the required puja, followed by feeding the Brahmins or Poor donations in the name of their departed ancestors are duly blessed by the ancestors’ soul.

For instance, The Markandeya Purana, the departed ancestors would bless their descendants who perform Sharad with good health, wealthy, longevity and prosperity. This is the reason People prefer to wait for the auspicious Navratri period which begins when Pitru Paksha would ends and then the make their property investments or sign rental agreements. In fact, most Hindus do not even want to inquire about any properties and their availability or see a property in the market, let alone enter into a rental or sale agreement. Therefore, the practices have been maintained for a long period of time.
