The 7th day of Navratri is associated with worshipping Maa Kaalratri. During this Vasant or Chaitra Navratri 2024, the 7th day will be celebrated on 15th April 2024.

Who is Maa Kaalratri?

Once two demon brothers named Shumbha & Nishumbha invaded heaven and the king of heaven- Indra along with other Gods, fleed to save their lives and went to seek refuge in Kailasha (Abode of Lord Shiva & Goddess Parvati).

There the Gods prayed to Goddess Parvati for protection.

Goddess Parvati took the extremely ferocious form of Kaalratri to kill Shumbha & Nishumbha and gave the Gods their kingdom back.

Kaalratri is made up of two words- 'Kaal and Ratri'.

Kaal in this context means Death and Ratri means Night/Darkness/Ignorance.

Hence, Maa Kaalratri brings an end to the darkness or ignorance in the lives of Her devotees.
