Day 6: Worship Maa Katyayani

The 6th day of Navratri is associated with worshipping Maa Katyayani. During this Vasant or Chaitra Navratri 2024, the 6th day will be celebrated on 14th April 2024.

Who is Maa Katyayani?

There was a demon called Mahishasura who could change forms and become a buffalo as well as a demon. He terrorized everyone, including the Gods and everyone prayed to Lord Vishnu for a solution.

Lord Vishnu consulted with Lord Shiva and Lord Brahma; and they requested Goddess Parvati to take an incarnation in order to kill Mahishasura.

Maa Katyayani is the form of Goddess Parvati that She took to kill Mahishasura.

She took birth as the daughter of Sage Katyayan and hence came to be known as 'Katyayani'.

The Holy Trinity (Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva) and other Gods gave Her many weapons to use in Her battle to slay Mahishasura and She fought extremely fiercely to bring an end to that demon's wrong doings.

Maa Katyayani governs Jupiter or 'Guru Graha'.
