Mythological story of Amalaki Ekadashi:

In ancient times, there was a city named Vaidish, in which Brahmins, Kshatriyas, Vaishyas, and Shudras lived. All the citizens lived. All the citizens living there were devotees of Vishnu, and there were no atheists there. The name of its king was Chaitrath. King Chaitrath was a scholar, and he was very religious. No one in his city was poor. Every person living in the city used to observe Ekadashi fast. Once in the month of Pahlgun, Amalaki Ekadashi came. All the citizens and the king observed this fast and went to the temple and worshipped Amala and performed Ratri Jagran there. Then, at night, a hunter came there who was a great sinner, but he was hungry and thirsty. So he sat in the corner of the temple and started watching the jagran and listening to the story of Lord Vishnu and Ekadashi Mahatmya. In this way, the whole night passed. Along with the citizens, they went to their homes. The hunter also went home and ate food. But after some time, the hunter died.

However, he had heard the Amalaki Ekadashi fast katha and also performed jagran, so he was born in the house of King Viduratha. The king named him Vasuratha. He grew up and became the king of the city. One day, he went out hunting but lost his way midway. Due to losing his way, he slept under a tree. After a while, the mlechha came there, and seeing the king alone, they started planning to kill him. They said that because of this king, they were exiled. Therefore, we should kill him. Unaware of this, the king kept sleeping. The mlechha started throwing weapons at the king. But their weapons started falling on the king in the form of flowers.

After some time, all the mlechha were lying dead on the ground. When the king woke up, he saw that some people were lying dead on the ground. The king understood that all of them had come to kill him, but someone put them to death. Seeing this, the king asked who was the one in the forest who had saved his life. Then there was a voice from the sky that said, “Oh king, Lord Vishnu has saved your life. You had heard the Amaklaki Ekadashi Katha in your past life, and it is the result of that today you are alive despite being surrounded by enemies. The king returned to his city and started ruling happily and doing religious work.
