Amalaki Ekadashi Vrat Katha

According to mythology, in ancient times, there was a king named Chitrasena. King Chitrasena was a very religious and just king. He was a great devotee of Lord Vishnu. King Chitrasena regularly observed the fast and worship of Amalaki Ekadashi. Furthermore, everyone in his kingdom followed suit and observed the Ekadashi fast and worship. Prosperity reigned throughout King Chitrasena's kingdom.

Once, the king went hunting in the forest with his companions. While pursuing their prey, the king wandered far into the forest and lost his way. Suddenly, King Chitrasena was attacked by a large number of Mlechchhas. This sudden attack took him by surprise. He bravely faced the Mlechchhas. However, King Chitrasena was alone, and the Mlechchhas were overwhelmingly numerous. The battle exhausted him and he fell unconscious. The Mlechchhas thought they had killed King Chitrasena, but this was a mistake. As they approached the king, a divine light emerged from the king's body, killing all the Mlechchhas in the blink of an eye. Having protected the king from the Mlechchhas, the power was reabsorbed into King Chitrasena's body.

After some time, King Chitrasena regained consciousness and saw that all the Mlechchhas who attacked him had been transported to Yamaloka. He was astonished. The king wondered who protected him and who killed these Mlechchhas. Then a voice from the sky said, "O King Chitrasena! You are a true devotee of God. Due to the power of your Amalaki Ekadashi fast, the Vaishnavi Shakti manifested from your body to protect you, and it was she who killed all these Mlechchhas." The king then asked, "O Lord! Where is that Vaishnavi Shakti who saved me now? I want to express my gratitude to her." The king then received the reply, “O King! The Vaishnavi Shakti that had appeared from your body has again merged into your body.” The king was very satisfied after hearing the divine voice and he observed the fast and worship of Amla Ekadashi throughout his life and told everyone about its significance.
