Pausha Putrada Ekadashi is an important day in Hinduism, considered a sacred day. This fast is observed on the eleventh day (Ekadashi) of the bright fortnight (Shukla Paksha) of the Pausha month.
This day is entirely dedicated to Lord Vishnu, and worshipping Lord Vishnu is the prescribed practice on this day. As the name Putrada Ekadashi suggests, it is the "Ekadashi that bestows sons." This Ekadashi falls in the months of December and January. Putrada Ekadashi occurs twice a year: Shravana Putrada Ekadashi, which falls in July-August, and Pausha Putrada Ekadashi, which falls in December-January. Pausha Putrada Ekadashi is more popular in North India, while other regions give more importance to Shravana Putrada Ekadashi. This day is especially celebrated by Vaishnavas, the followers of Lord Vishnu. In Hindu society, having a son is considered highly important because he takes care of his parents in their old age and performs the Shraddha rituals after their death. While each Ekadashi is dedicated to specific purposes, the goal of having a son is so significant that two Ekadashis are dedicated to it.

Katha of Putrda Ekadashi
The story of Putrada Ekadashi is found in the Bhavishya Purana, as narrated by Lord Krishna to King Yudhishthira. Once, King Suketuman of Bhadravati and his queen, Shaivya, were deeply saddened by their childlessness. They worried that after their death, their souls would not find peace without a son to perform the necessary rituals. In despair, the king and queen left their kingdom and went into the forest, unknown to anyone. After wandering in the forest for many days, Suketuman arrived at the ashram of some sages on the banks of Lake Manasarovar on the day of Putrada Ekadashi. The sages revealed that they were the ten divine Vishwadevas. They advised the king and queen to observe the Putrada Ekadashi fast to be blessed with a son. The king and queen followed their advice and returned to their kingdom. Soon, the king was blessed with a son, who grew up to become a valiant king.
