The third day of Navratri is associated with worshipping Maa Chandraghanta. During this Vasant Navratri, the third day will be celebrated on 11th April 2024.

Who is Maa Chandraghanta?

Maa Chandraghanta is the married form of Goddess Parvati and is the third among the nine forms of Goddess Durga or Nav Durga.

After getting married to Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati took on the specific form of Maa Chandraghanta to protect Her devotees from all problems and bestow Her auspicious blessings upon them.

Depiction of Maa Chandraghanta

Maa Chandraghanta is depicted as seated on a tigress.

She adorns half Moon (Ardha Chandra) on Her forehead which looks like a bell or 'Ghanta'. Hence, She is called as Chandraghanta by Her devotees.

She has ten hands and carries Trishul (Trident), Gada (Mace), Khadag (Sword) and a Kamandal (Sacred Pot) in four of Her left hands.

The fifth left hand of the Goddess is shown in 'Varadaan Mudra' (hand position that shows Her as granting boon).

Coming to Her right hands, the Goddess carries 'Kamal Pushp' (Lotus Flower), 'Baan' (Arrow), 'Dhanush' (Bow) and 'Rudraksha Mala' (Rudraksha Rosary) in four of Her right hands.

The fifth right hand of the Goddess is shown in 'Abhay Mudra' (hand position that shows Her as giving the blessings of fearlessness).
