The two types of eclipses that occur are Solar Eclipses and Lunar Eclipses.

Solar Eclipse: Meaning

The phenomenon of Solar eclipse happens when the Moon, during its movement on the orbital path, happens to come between the Earth and the Sun, which thereby casts a shadow on the Sun. The cosmic event of Solar eclipse can only be seen from a certain area. In Vedic Astrology, it is also known as Surya Grahan or Solar Eclipse.

When the Moon casts its shadow on Earth, it blocks various rays from the Sun. The Moon is small in size as compared to the Sun and when it comes in front of the Sun, it is not able to cover it completely. Because of this, the eclipse only happens in some parts of the Earth. And with the movement of Sun and Moon, these areas might not remain the same during the whole eclipse.

Types of Solar Eclipses

Solar eclipses are of 4 types and different types of Solar eclipses are:

Partial Solar Eclipses: When the moon only covers some portion of the Sun, it is known as Partial Solar eclipse.

Annular Solar Eclipses: This phenomenon is considered to happen when the Size of Moon is small as compared to the Sun, so it is not able to fully cover the Sun. That is what’s known as the Annular Solar Eclipse when the outer part of the Sun cannot be completely covered by the Moon’s shadow. This phenomenon is also responsible for the ring of fire that is visible around the Sun.

Total Solar Eclipses: When the moon completely covers the Sun it is known as Total Solar Eclipses. One can only see a total solar eclipse if he is present in the path where the Moon casts its darkest shadow.

Hybrid Solar Eclipses: They are also known as annular-total eclipses and are the rarest type. They happen when an eclipse is switching from total to Annular or vice versa.

Lunar Eclipse: Meaning

A Lunar Eclipse occurs when Earth comes between the Sun and the Moon and blocks the rays coming from the Sun, which would have reflected on the moon. It holds a great significance in both Vedic Astrology and Science. In other words, when Moon is posited in between the straight line of the Sun and the Earth, then Lunar Eclipses occur. This is also called Chandra Grahan.

Because of the Lunar Eclipse, the visibility of the Moon from the earth reduces to a minimum. A Lunar Eclipse only happens on a full moon night. This holds great importance in Astrology and is expected to affect one’s astrological conditions.
