Solar Eclipse 2026: A Celestial Event – Date, Visibility & Astrology Insights

Solar Eclipse 2026

A solar eclipse is a type of eclipse that occurs when the Moon passes between the Earth and the Sun, and when viewed from Earth, the Sun is either fully or partially covered by the Moon. When the Moon comes between the Sun and the Earth, the image of the Sun behind the Moon is covered for some time; this phenomenon is called a solar eclipse. The Earth revolves around the Sun, and the Moon revolves around the Earth. Sometimes the Moon comes between the Sun and the Earth. Then it blocks some or all of the Suns light, due to which a shadow falls on the Earth. This phenomenon is called a solar eclipse. This phenomenon always occurs on the new moon day.

  • Total Solar Eclipse

A total solar eclipse occurs when the Moon comes between the Earth and the Sun, while being very close to the Earth and completely covering the Earth in its shadow. As a result, sunlight is not able to reach the Earth, and a situation like darkness is created on Earth. Then the entire Sun is not visible on Earth. The eclipse formed in this way is called a total solar eclipse.

  •  Partial Solar Eclipse

In a partial solar eclipse, when the moon comes between the Sun and the Earth in such a way that only a part of the Sun is not visible from the Earth, that is, the moon is able to cover only a part of the Sun in its shadow. In this, if some part of the Sun is in the eclipse and some part remains unaffected by the eclipse, then the eclipse that occurs in that particular part of the Earth is called a partial solar eclipse.

  • Annular Solar Eclipse

In annular solar eclipse, when the Moon is at a great distance from the Earth and comes between the Earth and the Sun, that is, the Moon covers the Sun in such a way that only the central part of the Sun comes in the shadow area and when seen from the Earth, the Sun is not completely covered by the Moon, rather the area outside the Sun is illuminated and appears shining in the form of a bracelet or ring. The solar eclipse that is in the shape of a bracelet is called an annular solar eclipse.

Type: Total Solar Eclipse

Astrological Significance: In Vedic astrology, solar eclipses (Surya Grahan) are powerful celestial events where the Sun, Moon, and Earth align. The Moon obscures the Sun, symbolically dimming vitality, authority, and clarity. This eclipse will occur in a specific zodiac sign (most likely Leo or Cancer, depending on sidereal positioning), which will color its influence.

Sutak Kaal: Begins 12 hours before the start of the eclipse and ends after the eclipse ends. In astrology, it is considered an inauspicious time, so it is forbidden to do any auspicious work during a solar or lunar eclipse. Even the doors of the temple are closed during the eclipse. However, this is valid only when it is visible. For children, the elderly, and ill people, Sutak restrictions are relaxed.

Sutak Kaal & Precautions

Sutak Rules:

  • Avoid eating or cooking food during Sutak.
