What is Guru Purnima?

Guru Purnima falls on the full moon date of the Hindu month, Ashadha. It is a day that is dedicated to our Guru’s or Teachers. The word “Guru” in Sanskrit is translated as “Remover of Darkness”. Story Of Guru Purnima

The day of the birth anniversary of Ved Vyasa Ji is celebrated as the Guru Purnima. Ved Vyasa was the son of Rishi Parashar. It is believed that he was aware of all the Kaals (Past, present, and future). With his powers, he had an idea that in future people will not believe in God and lose interest in religion, so he divided Vedas into four parts which made it easy for people to understand them easily. After dividing the Vedas, he gave that knowledge to his four students named- Vaishampayana, Sumantumuni, Pail, and Jaimin.

He is considered as our ancient Guru because of the knowledge he provided to the world. That is the reason that Guru Purnima 2019 is also known as Vyasa Purnima 2019. ।। It means that Guru is Brahma, Guru is Vishnu, and Guru is Mahesh, revere the guru who is the manifestation of the supreme God. ।।
