“Krishna Janamashtami”
Abha BansalKrishna Janamashtami is being celebrated in India today i.e. 1st September 2010. This is a great Hindu festival meant to celebrate the birth of Lord Krishna, the eighth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. In various states, it is also known as Krishnashtami, Saatam Aatham, Gokulashtami, Ashtami Rohini, Sri Krishna Jayanti, Sri Jayanti or simply Janamashtami.

There is always confusion about the celebration of Janamashtami. This year Government holiday is on 2nd September whereas the actual Janamashtami is on 1st September. Ashtami will start after 10:50 am on 1st of September and Rohini Nakshatra will also start after 01:19 pm and will be there till next morning on 2nd September. Since Krishna was born on midnight, we should consider this point and should not take the tithi at sunrise by thumb rule.

For festivals celebrated at midnight, we should consider the nakshatra and tithi at that time.
Krishna took birth at mid-night on the Ashtami or 8th day of Krishna Paksha in the Hindu month of Shravana. This happened to be 21st July, 3228 BC. This date has been calculated by Future Point software. Here is the horoscope of Lord Krishna as made by us-
             Ascendant Navmansh Krishna

In the horoscope of Lord Krishna, Moon in the first house gives him a charismatic personality. Exalted Mercury in fifth house endows him with excellent oratory skills and extraordinary intellect. Rahu, Mars and Venus in third house causes struggle in life and involves the native in war and conflicts. Ketu in ninth house makes the native majestic and keeps away from birthplace. The predictions from the given horoscope match exactly with the life events and personality of Shri Krishna. Hence, the birth chart made by the software is accurate.

Lord Krishna, the leader, hero, protector, philosopher and Jagadguru gives a great message of devoting yourself to your work and duties without worrying for its results. Complete dedication towards any cause always brings favourable results. This is the message we should learn from Krishna.

           krishna-mantra

In this way, we can conclude that any work or duty we undertake should be considered important and we should dedicate all our energies and consciousness into it whole heartedly so that we enjoy it. According to Krishna, by doing this one can become great.

Reality of Dreams

Arun BansalIn the year 1974 when I was preparing for the examinations of B.Sc., I saw a dream in which I was giving the examination. I was reading the question paper and easily solved all the questions well before time and finished the exam. After waking up, I could easily remember almost all the questions and the answers which I had written in the dream. Expecting at least some of those questions in the examination, I revised them and was surprised to find the same questions in the exam exactly in the same order. It was amazing can be true and correct dream.

After that, just before the results were to be declared, I dreamt that I had topped the exam with a specific percentage of marks and the one who had come in the second position had marks much less than what I had scored. Again to my sheer surprise, when the result was declared, it was absolutely same what I had seen in the dream.

Another time, I had a dream where I saw my mother clad in clothes and jewellery dressed for her wedding. She passed away 3-4 days after this dream.

Once, when I was sitting with my father, he was dreaming, speaking aloud in pure Sanskrit and moving his finger as if reading from a book. He was teaching Gita to a student. The surprising thing was that I knew he doesn’t remember Gita by heart.

30 years ago, while learning Astrology, out of curiosity I used to keep asking various astrologers for results of different houses, signs and planets, but always had difficulty figuring out which planet will give good or bad results and when. This dilemma was going on increasing and then one day I dreamt that the planets were revolving around my head and emitting their rays on me. My head was very heavy but after waking up, all the questions of the horoscope became self explanatory and since then I have never felt the need to find out whether the planets shall yield auspicious or inauspicious results.

Similarly, once when I started for office, 2 black cats crossed my path. Ignoring it, I went ahead but had to face a lot of unexpected delays, obstacles and loss of money. Same incident happened again after a few days with similar kind of results. As a result, whenever two black cats cross my path, I change my path.

Do dreams and omens signify and warn of something or are superstitions?

Considering dreams and omens as myths seems inappropriate because seeing an incident before hand many a times cannot be a co-incidenence. Seeing something exactly in dreams which is impossible to know before hand highlights an important fact about dreams.

Many a times, patients have been heard of talking about their dreams where they saw something, got a jolt and became healthy. It may be possible that their brain got a message from their nervous system and they got cured.

According to cause and effect, theory, every effect has a cause and that effect is responsible for the next cause. Cause and effect are intertwined and related. Nothing in this world is an accident. A universal power has made dreams and omens to warn of coming/ impending incidents. Our sages have studied dreams and omens in details. These dreams and omens are one of the many ways which tell us about our future. With their help, we can have an idea of what is coming or going to happen in our life and this gives up power to make changes for the better.

Ramcharitmanas also talks about omens at many places. During the marriage of shree Rama, all the good and auspicious omens were seen.

Chara Chashu Baam disi leyi, manahu sakal mangal kahi deyi.

Neelkanth bird was seen feeding on the left side as if it was indicating all good to happen left side as if it was indicating all good to happen.

Dahin kaag sukhet suhava, nakul darasu sab kahu pava
Sanukul bah tribidh bayari, Saghat sabaal aav bar nari.

Crow seen on right side in a beautiful farm, sight of mongoose, aromatic refreshing breeze blowing from the right direction, married women with water filled pots and children - all these indicated auspicious moments ahead.

Lova firi firi darasu dekhava, surbhi sanmukh sisuhi piava.
Mrigmala firi dahini aai, mangal gan janu dinhi dekhai.

Sight of fox, cow feeding milk to the calf, group of deer coming towards the right - all these were seen to indicate auspicious moments.

Chemkari keh chem biseshi, syama baam sutaru par dekhi, Sanmukh aayau dadhi aru meena, kar pustak dui bipra prabina.

White headed eagle, sight of black bird on a beautiful tree on the left, curd, fish and 2 learned persons with books in hand - sights of these indicated auspicious.

Before going to war, Raavan saw the following inauspicious omens as if warning him of his death.

Ati garb ganai na sagun asagun sravahin aayudh haath te,

Bhat girat rath te baaji gaj chikkrat bhajahin saath te.

Gomaye geedh karaal khar rav swaan bolhahin ati ghave,

janu kaaldoot ulook bolahin bachan param bhyavane.

Because of ego and pride, Raavan did not consider any omens. Weapons falling from hands, warriors falling from chariots, horses and elephants run away making lord noises, crying of hyenas, vultures, crows, donkeys and dogs, owls crying so loud as if they are messengers of death.

Roots of Indian Astrology
YashKaran Sharma

The Roots of Indian Astrology can be traced back to the dawn of history. According to Indian Astrology, your true self & personality is defined by the position of the planets, at the time and place of your birth. The present and future positions of the planets are compared with those of your birth chart to predict your future. This is the basis of Indian Astrology.

Hindu astronomy is called Jyotisha in Sanskrit. It means the Science of Light or of celestial Objects. Astrology called Phalita Jyotisha is a subsidiary branch of the same. Its relationship with astronomy is akin to that of technology to basic or pure sciences. It is a well developed system that has evolved over several centuries both in the East and in the West. It is believed that science of astrology originally originated in India and has been practiced continuously for more than 8000 years.

The very fact that the astrologers chosen and involved in certain tests were able to predict very correctly the professions, important events and even diseases, of persons whose horoscopes only had been supplied to them, shows that astrology is not superstition and astrologers are not humbugs.

Little does one realize that the science of Indian astronomy was so much advanced thousands of years ago, that the word day is derived from the Sanskrit root (Dagdh) fire (the Sun), without the help of a telescope, using only our rishis (re-see) mindoscope, their consciousness, that could match even the Hubble telescope in space.

One cannot deny that moons gravitational force, which moves billions of gallons of water in the oceans producing high and low tides, could have some effect on the human systems, that are filled with water to the brim! Even our hard bones are 65 percent water ! Studies have shown how elective surgery, done on the new moon day vis-a-vis full moon day, results in marked difference in blood loss. So the cosmos, of which man is but a tiny part, will certainly have a say in his life.

The inaccuracies in predicting the future using astrology is the Achilles heel of astrology. But that is the curse even of science of the highest order, physics as well, not to speak of the Doctors predicting the unpredictable everyday.

No scientist  could predict the earthquakes in Kobe, San Francisco, or nearer home in Gujarat.
The fault in predicting the future is not in physics or astrology but in us.

Representation of Horoscope in Different Styles.

Our sciences will have to progress to understand the working of Nature better to predict the future accurately. Fault is not in astrology or physics but in our methods. Let us study astrology in greater depth and then accept or condemn it. Prejudging anything is unscientific.

Astrology has become more accessible now, and people no longer find its principles esoteric. For one thing, its easier to read about astrology in your mother tongue. Proficiency in classical languages is no longer a prerequisite. Accurate time keeping and calendars have brought it within the purview of the common man.

  • The Greeks cast horoscopes based on the time of birth giving details about the finance, family, fate and future of the individual. One such horoscope from Greece, return on papyrus, about 2000 years old, is preserved at the British Museum.

  • Pharonic Egypt too rated astrologers very highly. The pharaohs consulted astrologers to read the charts of the rival claimants to the throne, who were later put to death.

  • One of the prerequisites for claiming kingship in China was the knowledge of astrology. In 2513 C. Cheuni was elected king in this manner.

  • Even Alexander the Great took along his astrologer, Calisthenis, on all his campaigns. He incorporated the astrological traditions of whichever country they happen to attack.

Thus every nation is credited with the knowledge of astrology. However, despite its ancient glories and triumphs, the relentless march of scientific enquiry has turned the astrologer into a soothsayer. No school of astrology can be the last word of authority and no two astrologers have the same perceptions. It relies more on the law of probability. Moreover there is hardly any governing body that will separate the wheat from the chaff. No wonder that charlatans abound to cheat the people. All said and done, astrology does provide a certain amount of solace to people buffeted by the slings and arrows of an uncertain life. It gives them hope that their troubles will disappear and provides them confidence to carry on with life amidst all ills.

The records that exist in India today point clearly to a highly developed knowledge of astrology as far back as about 6,500 BC and actual manuscripts are still extant which were written about 3,700 BC. Some of the originals have been destroyed or lost but actual copies of these originals were made by later astrologers. These are to be found in the libraries of Maharajas and in the libraries of certain states in India. Actual, detailed records of astrological science are continuous from about 6,500 BC. One of the earliest authors of Vedic astrology, copies of whose work are still to be found, is Pita Maha who wrote a treatise on astrology called Pita Maha Siddhanta. He lived and wrote this book about 3,000 BC.

Five hundred years later, another author-astrologer named Vashishta wrote several books on astrology, astronomy and philosophy. His most important work, and one which was used as an authority by all subsequent writers on the subject, is Vashishta Siddhanta, but he wrote many other equally erudite and authoritative texts such as the Panch Siddhanta Kosha, Soorya Siddhanta, Nityananda, etc. Yet, Parasaras Hora Sashtra and Varahamiharas Brihat Jathaka, constitute the core Vedic Astrology Texts.

Tension or stress is a natural reaction of the events that take place in our day-to-day life. It can be a friend or a foe of a person. When under control, it can ignite creative power and productivity in a person and can make him or her prospective as well. But when out of control, it can take horrible toll on his or her mental, physical and emotional health and ;) relationships and this is this second form of it that prevails the world over -whether, in family or in the office, in park .or in travel in the present age of matter when everybody tries to grab every pleasure of life by this way or that.

In todays fast-paced world, we are experiencing more stress than ever before. A study ! conducted until recently shows that more than 45 percent people suffer adverse health effects from stress.

We all know that anxiety disorders cannot be stopped. We cant simply wish them away. In fact, they grow on most of us and eventually become chronic. So, the big question is what to do? Doctors and scientists are trying to find ways out. Researches are on but the situation is still far from satisfactory. But then there is hope as well in the form of different astrological paths and systems such as Ayurveda, Yoga, Pranic healing, acupressure, acupuncture and herbal medicines.

Where Ayurvedic medicine and Yoga can help us in keeping our body fit and healthy, consultancy by consultants of different streams can really help us in easing out the stress and tension people are going through these days. Astrology acts as a psycho treatment to a person going through a bad phase and feels very lone. Depression and increased tendencies to commit suicide can be effectively controlled if correct astro advice is given to a person in advance to prepare him to accept the upcoming event. One can prepare oneself mentally to accept the rough patch without much problems.

Tarot – A Tool for Guidance

Tarot cards are like a mirror which shows the true self of a person, his thoughts,  desires, dreams and attitudes which are nothing but a result of his past actions and thoughts. This is one of the reasons why tarot has proved immensely useful for predictions.

People in the present world have become “Psychological Greenhouse” because of repressed emotions, actions and thoughts which have not found expression. This has led to the disconnection between mind, body and soul. Psychologists today believe that these repressions are the cause of emotional problems, unfounded fears, phobias, PMS and in extreme cases hallucinations and delusions. What has really happened here and with most people is that they are not aware of their true self. They have lost touch with themselves in the busy routines of their life.

Tarot Cards

Tarot can play an important role in such cases because the ultimate aim of tarot is to bridge the gap between conscious mind and unconscious mind which is the repository of all repressed emotions and thoughts. In fact, this is how tarot works. It lays bare the emotional and behavioral patterns of a person making him aware of his true self and thus giving the reader an excellent tool to guide the seeker in the right direction towards a harmonious life. Many people who have worked with tarot or have had Tarot Counseling sessions have noticed a difference in the way they perceive life, people and situations around them.

The reason this happens is when you become aware of your own thought patterns, you develop an ability to positively modify yourself and therefore your destiny as well to quite an extent. Like Osho says, AWARENESS is the key to the locks of the unconscious mind. It is like switching on the lights in a dark room. This is exactly what tarot is – a guiding light in the dark.
