K.B. Ravi I am brining to your attention a
very interesting phenomenon which occurs in GAVI GANGADESHARAWARA TEMPLE
(Cave Temple) one of the oldest temple in BANGALORE CITY about 400 years
ago. On every Makara
Sankranthi day (14th Jan every year), the Suns rays fall on
the SHIVA LINGAM (Deity of
the temple) which is inside a cave. This is observed around 17.15 hrs
every year. The Suns position on 14th Jan at 5.30 hrs I.S.T. for various years is given below : ( Lahiris Ephemeris)
In the temple, the Sun, rays is
observed to be advancing from the left of the deity 2 to 3 days earlier
and falls on the deity on MAKARASANKRANTHI Day around 17.15 Hrs. Then
recedes backwards, never moves forward, and stops falling inside the
temple 2 to 3 days later. Every year as per the ephemeris,
Sun enters Makara at different times, but the temple it is always around
17.15 Hrs. The observation of the Suns rays moving forward and then
backward shows that the declination of the Sun is maximum on that day. But
as per the above data it is not so. This diagram would explain the
phenomenon clearly as observed in the temple at Bangalore :
The calculated declination of the
Sun according to the Ephemeris on 14th Jan is marked as dotted
lines, which is less than the maximum declination of the Sun. This shows
that the sunlight should fall into the temple TWICE A YEAR towards the end
of November and 14th of Jan. OR around 21st Dec when
the Suns declination is maximum. But this phenomenon occurs only on the
14th of Jan. ( I was informed that once in 15 years, this
phenomenon occurs on 15th of Jan). Apart from this event taking
place in Bangalore, there is
another temple at Sringeri, Karnataka registering the same event. The sun
light falls on different pillars on every Sankaramana. THIS PHENOMENON DOES NOT OCCUR ON
THEORY OF THE PRECESSION OF EQUINOXES. The ancient Hindu Astronomical
Treatise SURYA SIDDHANTHA states in chapter III V-11, 12 about
Liberation (Rev EBENEZER BURGESS TRANSLATION). V 11: The circle, as thus corrected, accords with its observed
placed at the solstice (ayana) and at either equinox; It has moved
eastwards, when the longitude of the Sun, as obtained by calculation, is
less than that derived from the shadow. V 12: By the number of degrees of
difference, then, turning back, it has moved westwards by the amount of
difference, when the calculated longitude is greater
. Rev Burgess States : But our
interpretation is shown to be correct one by the direction given in Verse
11 & 12, which teach that when the Suns calculated longitude
which is its distance from the initial point of the fixed sphere is
less than that derived from the shadow which is his distance from the
equinox the circle has moved eastwards, and the contrary; it is
evident, then that the initial point of sphere is regarded as the movable
point, and the equinox as the fixed one.
Keeping in view the observations
at the temple and the above interpretation, The general theory of precession
of equinoxes could possibly be THEORY OF RELATIVITY??????? |
